Lena Crain Lowrey, also know as Lea, age 92 went home to be with her heavenly Father on February 2, 2016 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, AL. She was a former career social worker in both Alabama and Florida. Lea held a Masters degree in Guidance Counseling from the University of Alabama and worked primarily in adoption services placing children with adoptive parents. Her greatest joy was seeing the thrill and gratitude of parents receiving an adopted child.
Lea was loved and respected by her family, friends, and associates for her unfaltering Christian spirit. She was born on January 19, 1924 in Selma, AL.
She is survived by her daughter, Anna Wilson (Phil) of Alabaster, AL; four sons, Leonard Lowrey of Thomaston, AL; Gregg (Sara) Lowrey of Alabaster, AL; Bruce Lowrey of Maui, HI; and Joe (Diana) Lowrey of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren, Katie Wilson and Andrew Lowrey, and numerous nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Mayre Robins Crain and Desmond Crain as well as former husband, Leonard M. Lowrey, Jr. of Linden, AL.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Montevallo Presbyterian Church, 510 Shelby St., Montevallo, AL on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Leanne Pearce Reed officiating. Graveside services will follow that afternoon at 4:00 PM at Thomaston Cemetery in Thomaston, AL.
