Obituary for Cheryl Harrison Wright

Cheryl Harrison Wright entered eternity on May 27, 2023 at the age of 76 in her home at Danberry at Inverness in Birmingham, Alabama. She is survived by her husband of 12 years Rev. Jack Wright; her loving children, Keith Harrison and Darla Harrison Benefield; their spouses Mike and Stephen; three grandchildren, Lyndsey, Brooke, and Sullivan; her siblings and their spouses, Kent and Lucille Ballard and Judy and Larry Barnes; sisters-and brothers-in-law, Twynette Ballard, Ann and Jimmy Whatley, Eric and Sonya Harrison; many nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.

Cheryl was also a dearly loved step-mother and grandmother and is also survived by Jack’s children, Diane, Kathy, Russell, and Carol, their spouses, Chris, Gary, Stephanie, and Melissa; grandchildren, Daniel, David, Michael, Anna, Brianna, Benjamin, Russ, Rachel, Brady, and Darby, and their families that were very dear to her.

She is preceded in death by her first husband of nearly 41 years, Eddie Harrison; her daughter, Rita Harrison Williams; her father and mother, James Richard and Mary Ballard; and her brother, Jimmy Ballard.

Cheryl Dianne Ballard was born February 20, 1947 and grew up in the Nicholsville community in Marengo County, Alabama. She graduated from Sweet Water High School and then Thomasville Trade School as a cosmetologist serving friends and family in the Chilton community for many years. She was also an employee of Spinks Drug Store in Thomasville where she greeted customers with her welcoming smile and created beautiful arrangements in the flower shop.

With her gentle spirit also came a dose of humor she enjoyed sharing. She knew laughter and a warm hug was often the best medicine. Above all, Cheryl was a natural nurturer and caregiver. She loved her family without bounds and found her ultimate joy in spending time with all of them. She made her home a place of belonging and acceptance for everyone.

Having faithfully served in the church for many years, she lived one of her favorite scriptures so effortlessly: “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” What a beautiful soul and beautiful legacy of love she left for us to share with one another.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 31st at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, Alabama with visitation at 10am and service at 11am. Graveside services will follow at Smith Cemetery in the Chilton community.
