Obituary for Carl Pugh

Carl Pugh age 88 of Demopolis, AL died April 30, 2023 at his home. He was born January 8, 1935 in Arkadelphia, AL to Gilbert and Elizabeth Pugh. He was a former supervisor with Kendall Tree Service Corporation and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Carl’s favorite past-time was spending time at his river house at Paradise Point in Gees Bend. He especially loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren there. “Pop” as he was lovingly called enjoyed fishing and retrieving hung fishing lures for them from trees, sunken stumps and even stuck in one of his piers.

Carl and Inda loved traveling with friends or by themselves. But when home they spent every weekend for many years at Paradise Point building piers, storage, and workshops, and planting azaleas. Watching Alabama football and drinking coffee at the Men’s Coffee Club in Linden were two things he really enjoyed.

He is survived by his wife, Inda Pyle Pugh; three sons, Tony Pugh (Donna), Bill Pfaffman (Ann), and Shawn Pfaffman; daughter, Gabrielle P. McVay (Clayton); seven grandchildren, Chase Pugh, Clay McVay, James Chandler McVay, Sara McVay, Will Pfaffman, Landon Pfaffman, and Gabriel Pfaffman; and three great grandchildren, Carla Lakely Pugh, Logan Pugh, and Hadley Pugh.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gilbert Pugh; daughter, Carla Pugh Higgins; parents, Gilbert and Elizabeth Pugh; grandson, Jared Pugh; and two brothers, Millard Pugh and Edward Pugh.

Memorial services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 11:00 am with Rev. Evan Thayer officiating.

Special thanks to Southern Care Hospice, Ashley Quinney, Libby Hughes, Glendora Anderson, and caregivers, Joanne Bennett, Lavern Biggs, and Freda Jackson.
