Obituary for Raymond Gerald Vick

Raymond Gerald Vick passed from this life on January 16, 2023 at Brookdale Senior Living in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. He was born November 21, 1934 at the family home in Vineland, AL to Elbert and Irene Leonard Vick. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Inez Vick Piper. He grew up on the family farm and set out to Livingston University after graduating from Sweet Water High School in 1953.

After a tour of duty with the U.S. Army, teaching in Germany and traveling throughout Europe, Ray began his teaching career. He was a teacher at Choctawhatchee High School in Ft. Walton Beach and retired in 1988 after 27 years of service. He loved teaching and tried to inspire and encourage all of his students to embrace the value of education.

Ray lived a full life in his 88 years and enjoyed traveling, keeping his beautiful yard, the scenery of the Emerald Coast and spending time with family and friends. He loved music and had a beautiful singing voice. He enjoyed singing in the choir at Shalimar United Methodist Church for many years, as well as being involved in many church activities, for as long as he was able. Ray never had a family of his own but was devoted to the family into which he was born and the many friends he made along his life’s journey. You could never know a more loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend or neighbor. He was a joy to be around and we all knew to watch out for that sharp wit and sense of humor!

Left to cherish so many wonderful memories are his niece, Vickie (Tim) Fendley, Thomasville, AL; great nieces, Emily (David) Galluzzo, Lithia, FL and Jennifer Bell, Tampa, FL; great great niece, Rachel Rothenbusch, Tampa, FL; great nephews, David Fendley and Daniel (Bailey) Fendley, Mobile, AL; neighbors who became caregivers, Mike and Laurean Suchan, Ft.
