Obituary for Kerry Mitchell Luker

Kerry Mitchell Luker, 66, of Demopolis died peacefully surrounded by family at Whitfield Regional Hospital on January 12, 2023, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16, at Jefferson Methodist Church, and the funeral service will begin at 11, with graveside to follow at Jefferson Cemetery, with Rev. Kevin Krist officiating, and O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Kerry was born March 13, 1956, to Rubye and Jessie Luker, who both preceded him in death. He is also preceded by his youngest son, Darryl Luker, brothers Edward Luker (an infant) and Harold Luker (Peggy), and sisters Janiece W. Hill and Patsy Coats (Sammy).

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce Crawford Luker, sons Tony Luker (Betsy) and Ray Crawford, granddaughters Mary Sam Luker and Cassidy Crawford, sisters Faye Porter (Dick) and Pam Durham (Keith), brother Jimbo Luker (Suzanne), and a host of nieces and nephews.

Kerry was, and his loved ones will always be, most grateful for his story of redemption, a sinner saved by grace who loved his Lord and Savior and delighted in sharing his faith. He was a member of Revival Worship Center in Gallion, where he served as a deacon.

Kerry was a certified master plumber, which was his life’s work. Even in his off time and after retiring, he offered his skill, talents, and time volunteering for his church and friends to assist with projects of his trade and anything else he could do to help someone in need. He enjoyed taking a grill to different gatherings and cooking for friends and family after the work was done.

Pallbearers are David Coats, Dave Compton, Edward Luker, Willie Luker, Ben Mayton, Rich Porter Mike Twilley, and Robbie Wilkerson.

Honorary pallbearers are Gus Couch, Cameron Crawford, the employees of Paint N Supply, and the Whitfield Regional Hospital Oncology Staff.

The family appreciates flowers but also asks that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Kerry’s memory to Bigbee Humane Society or to Jefferson Cemetery (26100 AL Hwy. 28, Demopolis, AL 36732).

Jefferson Methodist Church is located at 26144 AL Hwy. 28 (Demopolis, AL 36732).
