Obituary for Charles Raymond Autrey

Charles Raymond Autrey, age 85 of Sunny South, AL passed away at home, peacefully, of natural causes on Monday, September 19, 2022 surrounded by family.

Known as Charles, Raymond, CR, Sorghum, Uncle Bud, Pawpaw, or just Dad, he was born on September 18, 1937 to Levy and Odessa Autrey at the Woods House in Sunny South. After graduating Pine Hill High School, he went on to work in several fields before being drafted to the Army. Once his service was done he came back home.

In 1966, Charles met the love of his life, Phyllis Ann Deloach. They were married and had three children.

In 1997, Charles retired from Kimberly-Clark and spent his time gardening, authoring several books, enjoying college football and westerns and loving his family.

Charles was predeceased by his parents, Levy and Odessa Autrey and his younger brother, Jimmy Wayne.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Ann Autrey; his children, Gloria Caroline (Michael) Phillips, Scott Hunter Autrey, and Kimberly Ann (Scott) Doggett; his brother, Justin Autrey; his sisters, Mary Louise Maness and Elsie Ray Vick; his grandchildren, Anna (Shawn) Minter, Amber (Brett) Hicks, Bradley (MacKenzie) Phillips, Olivia, Ella, Maggie, Carys, and Vada Autrey, and Teagan McGuffee; and his great grandchildren, Alyana and Mia Minter, Mary Alice Hicks, and Colby Phillips.

In lieu of a funeral, a memorial service will be held at Sunny South Baptist Church on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 11:00 am with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am.
