Obituary for Gail Thomason Oakes

Gail Thomason Oakes of Linden, AL passed away on the afternoon of July 25, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 24, 1951 in Cottonwood Point, MO to JW and Helen Thomason. She graduated high school from Linden High in 1969 and continued her education at Judson College. She was married in 1971 and celebrated her 49th anniversary with John Burt Oakes before his passing in February of 2020. She spent most of her years as a homemaker and homeschooling her children; she took much pride in singing gospel music in her church and surrounding churches, and sharing the word of God with anyone.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John B. Oakes; mother, Helen Thomason Kyser; father, JW Thomason; brother, Lynn Thomason; sister, Donna Thomason; grandparents, her best friend, Donna Holiday; and many more loved ones.
Gail is survived by her two children, Tiffany Gibson (John) and Jake Oakes (Lacy); sister, Ramona Hall (Frank); eight grandchildren, John Christopher, Braden, Madison, Morgan, Jonah, Jordan, Travis, and LeAnna; two nieces, Whitney Hall and Haley Oropilla (Marc); two nephews, Jeff Thomason and Seth Hall; many cousins, brother/sister in laws, great nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Legacy Hospice for all their kindness and help. It is truly a special calling to be able to take care of people during their last days, and these ladies and gentlemen did it amazingly, truly a blessing to our family during our saddest and most difficult time.

Mama was a beautiful person, who didn’t meet a stranger and always had an optimistic prospective. She will be so very missed by many.
