Obituary for Alex Davis

Hedley Alexander Davis, age 83, of Thomasville, died at his home May 5, 2022. Alex was born January 17, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will Nichols Davis and Agnes Jordan Davis, and his son, Hedley Alexander Davis, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Tate Davis; sister, Vivian Davis Hauser (Nick); sons, Thomas Tate Davis (Signe), William Nichols Davis (Susan), Charles Jordan Davis (Lisa), and James Robert Alexander Davis (Kelli). He has six grandchildren: Thomas Tate Davis, Jr., Caroline Lenora Davis, Charles Jordan Davis II, Mary Margaret Davis, Ann Alexandra Davis, and Margaret Emma Davis; and he has one great-grandchild, Virginia June Davis.

Alex graduated high school from Livingston High School in 1957, and he graduated from Auburn University in 1962 with a degree in Forestry and Chemistry. He began his professional career at Gulf States in Demopolis, Alabama, and then transferred to MacMillan Bloedel / Weyerhaeuser in Pine Hill where he worked for 35 years as an Environmental Engineer. He continued to work as a consultant for many years even after his retirement. He was a dedicated member of the Gulf Coast Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) and the National Council of Air and Stream Improvement (NCASI).

Alex was a dedicated member of Thomasville United Methodist Church since 1968, and he was a member of the chancel choir for 45 years. In addition, he was chairman and a member of the TUMC Men’s group for over 40 years, and he was a member of the Lions Club. Alex enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid outdoorsman and wildlife conservationist.

Visitation will be held at Thomasville United Methodist Church on Monday, May 9, 2022 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am service time with Rev. Phil Craddock and Rev. Erin Bevis officiating. Graveside funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at Clay Memorial Cemetery in Cuba, AL.
