Obituary for Bob Barnes
Robert Dobbins “Bob” Barnes age 74 of Montgomery, AL died Saturday, July 3, 2021 after a lengthy illness. Bob was born in Montgomery, AL on September 9, 1946
Bob was a sports writer for the Birmingham Post Herald in the mid-1970’s. He served as Sports Director at WCOV TV and Radio in Montgomery in the mid-1980’s. He was a graduate of Huntingdon College and a devoted fan of Auburn football. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of sports that led him to work in the sports media.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Thomas Barnes, Jr. and Mary Clark Barnes; brothers, Sam Barnes, Don Barnes, and Jim Barnes.
Survivors include nieces, Mary Anne Lee of Louisville, MS; Lynne Kimbrough of Tuscaloosa, AL; and Becky McCrary of Leighton, AL; nephews, Joe Barnes of Semmes, AL; Jay Barnes of Alpharetta, GA; and John Barnes of Tuscaloosa, AL; a number of great nieces and nephews; and Dianne James Davis of Alexander City, AL a lifelong devoted friend.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in Bob’s name to the ASPCA.
