Alex Benjamin “Ben” Lane of Linden, AL died March 27, 2021 at his home. On March 31, 1956, Ben Lane was born in Madison, Florida to Susie Brame Lane and Russell Owen Lane, Jr. He grew up on the family home place in Clyattville, Georgia where he learned his hard work ethic working in tobacco fields. Many of his summers were spent in Faunsdale, Alabama working on the farm with his Uncle Jimmie Brame. He later began working in the offshore oil industry. On one of his visits home, he was introduced by his mother to Dana--his devoted wife of nearly 40 years. After their marriage, Ben and Dana moved to Mobile, Alabama, where they started their family. It is here that Ben and Dana began their venture into the tire business. In 1994, Ben and Dana took a leap of faith and moved to Linden to re-open the local Linden tire store...now known as Lane’s Tire. Ben quickly became involved in the community. He was a long-time member of Linden Baptist Church, where, over the years, he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. Ben enjoyed beekeeping, gardening, woodworking, and traveling with his family. But, most of all, his four grandchildren were the light of his life. When diagnosed with cancer in February 2021, Ben’s first response was “I trust God”...and that he did.

He is survived by his wife, Dana Evans Lane; son, William Russell Lane (Tristan); daughter, Laura Lane Phillips (Barry); mother, Susie Brame Lane; siblings, Charles Lane (Glynda), Tsianina Lane, and Robert Lane; grandchildren, Eli Whitlock Phillips, Easton Scott Phillips, William Mason Lane, Evelynn Dari Lane

Ben was preceded in death by his father, Russell Owen Lane, Jr. and his sister, Angelina Lane.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Linden Memorial Park on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Chris Kynard, Dr. Billy Harris, Rev. William Faircloth, and Dr. Jerry Gunnells officiating.

Active Pallbearers will be, Kenneth Barrineau, Roy Etheridge, Trey Etheridge, Todd Hill, Kenneth Jacobs, Rick Ward, Hub Wyatt, and Pat Young

Honorary Pallbearers will be, Sonny Breckenridge, David Evans, Mitchel Hale, Bobby Owens, and Pete Wilkinson
