Obituary

Joseph LaDon Stockman, Sr., known by everyone as Joe, passed away January 16, 2021 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis, AL. He was 76 years old. A native son and longtime resident of Magnolia, Alabama, he is survived by his wife, Irene Stockman; son Jody Stockman (Emmy) and their 4 kids Sierra, Stone, Savannah and Ryder; daughter Jennifer Massey (Brian) and their 7 kids Leslee-Kate, Cage, Banks, Teague, Park, Payne and Lucy; daughter Jessica Stockman; brothers Henry Selton Stockman Jr., Winston Stockman, James “Buddy” Stockman, David Stockman; sisters Juliette Andrews, Bess Perry, Janie Hawks and Linda Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Henry and Effie Stockman, brothers Henry Lee, Bennie, John Ivan, and Jerry Dale, as well as sisters, Joan, Betty Jean, Betty Louise, Annie Grace and Judy Ann.

Joe spent most of his life working as an Engineering Assistant for the State of Alabama, from where he retired. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, playing Rook, cheering on the Crimson Tide, and a good plate of cornbread, but mostly he just loved a good conversation. He never met a stranger and could find someone he knew almost anywhere he went.

An active member of the Magnolia branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joe had a true missionary spirit. While he never served a formal mission for The Church, he spent countless hours in his later years assisting the young elders who were assigned to serve theirs in the Magnolia area. He was a true friend to all who knew him, and he enjoyed helping out and serving others in whatever capacity he could, as he tried to emulate his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Graveside services will be held Friday, January 22, at 2:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Magnolia, AL. Social distancing is appreciated.

Arrangements by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home.

To,all Joe's family and friends, I am so sorry for this life that has been taken from us here on earth, but at the same time we can rejoice in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father, is in no more pain, and is with his many people who have made that journey before. It will be hard here on this earth without Joe. Until we can be reunited again one day. May the LORD BLESS this family is my Prayer!!
