Ruth was born and raised in the Aimwell community. A lifelong member of Aimwell Baptist Church, Ruth was only away from Aimwell for brief stints—to earn her Bachelor’s degree in English from Livingston State College and more recently to be with her sister in Theodore, AL—but her heart was always at her home in Aimwell.
Ruth was a retired seamstress who had a beautiful singing voice, which she used to God’s glory by leading the singing at her church for many years. She loved playing piano, making music with her siblings, and acting as the keeper of her family’s history.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Asa Abner and Myrtle Flowers Phillips; two brothers, James Lewis “Jim” Phillips and John Asa Phillips, and one sister, Josie Gay Kelley.
She is survived by her sister, Valerie “Muff” Morgan; sister-in-law, Karen Phillips; four nephews, Phil and Edna Morgan, John Mark and Jeanette Morgan, Stuart “Mel” and Karen Morgan, and Nathan and Sheri Shuler-Morgan; two nieces, Erin and Shean Smith, and Angie and Christopher Woodward; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held at Aimwell Baptist Church on November 6, 2020 from 1 to 2 pm, followed by graveside funeral services at Aimwell Baptist Church Cemetery, where she will be buried surrounded by generations of her beloved family. The service is being preached by Dr. Victor "Bo" Brantley.
Those wishing to honor Ruth may send flowers or make a memorial donation to Aimwell Cemetery Association, c/o Reagan Daniels, 37961 AL Highway 10, Sweet Water, AL 36782.
