Obituary for Melnese Huckabee
(Janice) Melnese Huckabee, age 83, of Grove Hill, AL, passed away on October 15, 2020. Melnese was born on August 31, 1937, in Chilton, AL. She was the daughter of Glover and Nonie (nee McIntyre) White. On February 23, 1957, she married Murphy Huckabee in Sweetwater, AL. Together they were blessed with three children.
Melnese and Murphy moved their family from Alabama to Texas in 1975 where they remained for 25 years. After retiring, they returned to the family homestead in Chilton, AL where they were active members of Hopewell Baptist Church, and enjoyed working in the yard and gardening. After Murphy's passing, Melnese continued to maintain the family home. Faith and family were the driving forces in Melnese's life.
Melnese leaves behind a living legacy consisting of her loving children: daughter, Sherry Coffey of Dayton, OH; sons, David Huckabee (and wife Anne) of Dayton, OH, and Darren Huckabee of Grove Hill, AL; grandsons, Matthew Coffey and Jared Coffey both of Fernandina Beach, FL; great-grandsons, Dallas Coffey and Dillon Coffey both of Savannah, GA; sisters, Frances Roberts of Coffeeville, AL, and honorary sister, Evelyn Fillingim of Chickasaw, AL. Along with her parents, Melnese was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy Huckabee.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 11:00 am in Smith's Cemetery, Chilton, AL. Services will be officiated by Brother William Gibbons, pastor of Chilton Baptist Church.
Melnese and Murphy moved their family from Alabama to Texas in 1975 where they remained for 25 years.
