Obituary for Ouida Hearn McNider

Ouida Hearn McNider died Sunday, August 2, 2020, at her second home in Mobile. She was born June 6, 1935 in Camp Springs in Choctaw County. She was a long-time resident of Sweet Water.

Ouida graduated from Choctaw County High School in 1953. She was a bank teller for many years, first in Butler during high school, then in Mobile, and longest at Sweet Water State Bank. She later served as Postmaster in Morvin, then in Nanafalia.

Ouida was preceded in death by her parents, Fred L. and Bessie Smith Hearn; husband, Billy McNider; and three sisters, Valerie Bozeman, Nadine Strickland, and Freda Luker. She is survived by five children: Kay Down (Michael) of Jacksonville, FL.; Sharon Kelly (Pat) of Spanish Fort; Jan Joseph (Mark), Kim McNider, and Prentiss McNider (Mark), all of Mobile; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Ouida was a member of Sweet Water Baptist Church, where she especially enjoyed spending time with the ladies in her Joyful Seniors Sunday School Class. She looked forward to her high school friends for monthly lunches. She also cherished her lifetime friends. She was an early fan of QVC and a trailblazer of online shopping (to her husband's regret). She also enjoyed reading, especially after retirement, as well as drinking very strong coffee, and doting over her beloved dog Jiggs.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Forest Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Morvin, with Rev. Robert Baker officiating. The family requests that attendees practice social distancing and consider wearing a mask to protect those at high risk.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forest Springs Baptist Church for its cemetery fund, c/o 11282 Nicholsville Rd. Thomasville, AL 36784.

Mama you fought the good fight, and showed us how to be strong. Weebo, your grandchildren and their children will miss you. Ouida, your friends loved their time with you. We will always hold you close in our hearts.

Arrangements by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home.
