Virgil Mitchell “Champ” Smith age 69 a contractor of Sweet Water, AL died May 19, 2020 at Choctaw General Hospital. He was born December 24, 1950 in Butler, AL to Arthur and Mary Lou Smith. He was a member of Sweet Water Baptist Church and a US Army veteran.

He is survived by his daughter, Haley Hogancamp (Kevin) of Tallahassee, FL; four brothers, Shelton Smith of Sweet Water, AL; Buddy Smith of Sweet Water, AL; Raymond Smith of Chicago, IL; and Jimmy Ballard of Sweet Water, AL; two sisters, Louise Jowers of Thomasville, AL., and Mary Hutchins of Clanton, AL; and two grandchildren, Hudson Hogancamp and Mackenzie Hogancamp.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Massey Smith; his parents, Arthur and Mary Lou Smith; five brothers, Gerald Smith, Anthony Smith, Eluid Smith, Lee Vernon Smith, and Robert Eural Smith; and three sisters, Eula Ree Taylor, Ann Kelly, and Mittie Mae Smith.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Demopolis Memorial Gardens on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 11:00 am with Rev. Clay Davis officiating.
