Obituary for Edward Ingram
Edward Alfred Ingram (81), passed away on September 29, 2019 at his home in Crestwood, Kentucky. Al, as he was known by friends and family, was born January 15, 1938 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the oldest of three children of the late Fain Wilson and Fidesah Edwards Ingram. Al enjoyed exploring Lookout Mountain as a boy, and his love of nature continued throughout his life. He attended preparatory schools in Chattanooga. He was very involved in youth leadership at his church and attended the Southern Area Hi-Y/Tri-Hi-Y Leaders Training Congress. He graduated from Central High School where he was voted Most Likely to Succeed by his Senior Class.
Al continued his education at Georgia Institute of Technology where he received a degree in Industrial Engineering. He participated in a Co-op program, alternating semesters in school at Georgia Tech with work at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. While attending Georgia Tech, he was set up on a blind date by his sister Doris who was attending Auburn University. The blind date turned out to be the love of his life, Shirley Ann Lewis of Sweet Water, Alabama, who also attended Auburn University.
Shirley and Al were married November 4, 1963, and lived in Birmingham, Alabama; Allentown, Pennsylvania; Sweet Water, Alabama; Paducah, Kentucky; and Crestwood, Kentucky. They raised their four children: Michael Lewis Ingram, Timothy Edward Ingram, Amanda Michele Ingram, and Philip Rentz Ingram in Paducah. While in Paducah, he especially enjoyed being involved with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a leader and joining many Jamborees. After he retired, he and Shirley moved to Crestwood, in the greater Louisville, Kentucky area, to be near three of their children and five of their grandchildren, who knew him as “Pawpaw.” Al was a brilliant man who had a voracious desire to read. He spent many hours reading and exploring the world around him. He especially enjoyed reading history and science fiction books. His favorite pastimes included bird watching, movies, and spending time with his family.
Al is preceded in death by his sisters Doris Fidesah Wood and Ina Ruth Peele. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Ann Lewis Ingram; his four children: Michael Ingram (Allison) of Montgomery, Alabama; Timothy Ingram of Louisville, Kentucky; Amanda Ingram Kuzman (Craig) of Shelbyville, Kentucky; and Philip Ingram (Jamie) of Goshen, Kentucky; and 8 grandchildren: Cara Nicole Kuzman, Sarah Katherine Ingram, Joshua David Ingram, Emily Lewis Ingram, Elizabeth Alford Ingram, Ethan Jon Kuzman, Benjamin Aaron Ingram, and Amelia Jane Ingram.
Visitation will be held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, Alabama on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., with Dr. Karl K. Stegall officiating, followed by interment at Payne's Chapel United Methodist Church in Sweet Water, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Payne's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 1577 Beaver Creek Road, Sweet Water, Alabama 36782.
