Obituary for Doris Christopher Jones
Doris Christopher Jones, 88, a long-time resident of Thomasville, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Mrs. Jones was born on March 6, 1931, in Butler, Alabama to the late Jessie Bush Christopher and Oliver Bryan Christopher, Sr. She grew up in Butler as part of a large family with nine siblings and a large extended family. Following her graduation from Choctaw County High School, she attended college at the Livingston University and later earned her master’s degree and a second advanced degree in education from the University of Alabama. Mrs. Jones taught school at Thomasville High School for many years and was a member of Thomasville United Methodist Church. She was an extremely hard worker and at one point worked simultaneously as a teacher and yearbook advisor at Thomasville High School, a real estate agent, a bookkeeper for several businesses and an income tax preparer. She was loved by her family and many friends and former students.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Jones Mulliken, her son, Christopher Hoyt Jones; her grandchildren, Katie, Connor and Ryan Mulliken, and J.C. and Jessie Katherine Jones; and her son-in-law Ron Mulliken and daughter-in-law Virginia Jones. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents Oliver Bryan Christopher, Sr. and Jessie Bush Christopher; brothers James Abner Christopher; Oliver Bryan Christopher, Jr.; John Young Christopher, Sr.; Oscar Elmore Christopher; and Henry Howard Christopher, Sr.; sisters Lucille Christopher Land; Mary Lula Christopher Lindsey; Willie Bush Christopher Lancaster; and Jessie Frank Christopher Phillips; and granddaughter Josephine Marie Jones.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jones will be Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, Alabama. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Butler City Cemetery in Butler, Alabama. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
