Obituary for Gene Sheldon Overstreet

Gene Sheldon Overstreet, born March 9, 1939, to William and Velma Overstreet, in Wayne County, MS, as the 7th of 12 children, passed to his heavenly home on January 19, 2019, in his home surrounded by his devoted family. He gave us a storehouse of wonderful memories and always had a tremendous positive outlook, encouraging words, and a special smile. His servant’s heart, strong integrity, and his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, leaves a beautiful legacy for his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie Walters Overstreet, sons, Mike (Teri) and Kevin Overstreet of Thomasville, daughter, Dee Thomas (Sean) of Auburn, 6 Grands: Jake Overstreet, of Thomasville, Lindsey Overstreet, of Nashville, Michael, Charlie, Abby, and Molly Thomas of Auburn, 2 great grandsons, Cooper and Brady Overstreet of Thomasville. He also leaves a sister, Glenda Armstrong (John) of Millry, AL, brothers, Marion Overstreet (Betty) of Edmond, OK, Boyce Overstreet of Ocean, N.J., and host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gene retired from MacMillan Bloedel after 40 years in the paper industry. He then worked for C & O Foods as an egg broker for several years. He enjoyed many outdoor activities such as tennis, running, ballgames, especially those which involved a grand, and traveling with his wife. His favorite times were when he was surrounded by family; whether holiday gatherings, visits, or vacations, he loved every occasion.

Gene was a member of Pineview Baptist Church for 40 years where he served as Deacon, S.S. Teacher, on many Committees, and in other areas.

The visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 pm with Celebration of Life Services beginning at 2:30 pm at Pineview Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 22.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pineview Baptist Building Fund, 182 Moore Street, Thomasville, AL 36784 in his memory.

The family is so very grateful for the incredible love, support, and prayers by family and friends during these last 8 months. It was a great comfort that will always be remembered. A special thanks to Dr. Frank Dozier, Dr. M. Khushman, Mitchell Cancer Center employees in Monroeville, Infirmary Health Care, and Homestead Hospice. They showed such tenderness and compassion and we were touched and thankful for them all.

Arrangements by O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, AL.
