James Royce Pope age 86 of Grove Hill, AL died October 22, 2018 at his home. He was born May 20, 1932 in Jackson, AL to John Wesley and Thelma Hellon Pope. He was member of Hopewell Baptist Church and was a US Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Betty Webb Pope; son-in-law, Doug Scearce;son, Jamie (Sarah) Pope; daughter, Tami (Ben) Davis; eleven grandchildren, Judy Sego, Shelly (Daryl) Williams, Tara (Jeff) Emerson, Melissa (Aaron) Poor, Brandon (Catherine) Pope, Mason Pope, Olivia Pope, Ethan Pope, Ryan Davis, Kayla (Jamie) Overton, Micah Davis; and fourteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Pope; mother, Thelma Hellon Pugh; stepfather, Dawson Pugh; brother, John Elvin Pope; sister, Jessie Pearl Pope; and daughter, Teresa Faye Scearce.


Visitation will be held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 9:00 am until the 11:00 am service time with Rev. Leon Parnell and Ben Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Grove Hill, AL.
