Judy Kaye Hasty Kirkham, age 71, of Vineland, died October 20, 2015, at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Surginer, Alabama from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am service time with Rev. John Bonner and Rev. Sam Lowery officiating. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Wesley Hasty and Agnes Inez Raybon Hasty, two brothers, Bobby Franklin Hasty and James Wesley “Jimmy” Hasty.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Jefferson “T.J.” Kirkham, children, Thomas Darren Kirkham (Kim), Steve Jeffrey Kirkham (Cassandra), and Cynthia Kaye Kirkham Taylor (Rafe); grandchildren, Christiana, Caroline, Thomas, Anna, and Brooke Kirkham, Mary Madison, Bill, Olivia, and Trent Taylor; brother, Charles Howard “Buddy” Hasty (Jan Carol); and sister-in-law, Mary Olive Hasty.

Judy was born February 25, 1944 in Surginer, Alabama. She graduated from Sweet Water High School in 1962. She attended Girls State and was the Homecoming Queen and Varsity Head Cheerleader her senior year. She attended Livingston University 1962-1963.

Judy first worked as a secretary for the president of Bedsole Dry Goods. She married T.J. Kirkham in 1964. In 1974, she continued her education at Hobson Technical College to become a cosmetologist. She owned and operated the Magic Mirror Salon for 15 years. After selling her salon, she continued to work as a cosmetologist for another 8 years.

Judy was active in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church for many years. She taught the pre-teen Sunday School class. She also sang in the choir and alternated as church pianist. Judy consistently hosted the revival preacher each summer for dinner. In later years, she served as the pianist at Vineland Baptist Church and Magnolia United Methodist Church.

She was a tireless volunteer in her community. She worked numerous carnivals, fundraisers, concession stands, etc., for Thomasville Academy. She served as President of Marengo County Cowbelles. She was an active member of the Magnolia Community Center serving as Treasurer for 14 years.

Judy had many interests and hobbies: gardening, cooking, crocheting, and cross-stitching. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and was a relentless prayer warrior for them.

Pallbearers will be: Rafe Taylor, Bill Taylor, Thomas Kirkham, Ted Morgan, Mickey Pope, and Rex Leonard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: David Brunson, Wilfred Daily, David McKeithen, Bill Passmore, Larry Shields, Winki Slade, Lamar Stockman, John Warren, and David Wright.

The family would like to thank the staff of Southern Care Hospice for the wonderful care provided during her extended illness, Genesis Rehab Medical and Health, Dr. Mohammad Alsharabati at Kirklin Clinic for diagnosis and care management, Dr. Huey Kidd and staff at Physician’s Care, the staff at Walgreens, family, generous neighbors, friends, and most recently, Izetta Brown, for genuine, loving care.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to the ALS foundation or the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
