Ethel Marie Parten age 82 of Sweet Water, AL died February 3, 2017 at DCH Regional Hospital. She was born October 5, 1934 in Nanafalia, AL to Carl and Annie Willie F. Chapman. She worked for over 20 years with the Alabama State Department of Mental Health. She was a faithful member of Nanafalia Baptist Church. Anyone who knew her knows what she stood for. Words that come to mind are integrity, love, strength, selflessness, and commitment. She had an amazing work ethic, and she was determined to be independent. She was committed to God, her country, her family, and her husband who has been deceased for 19 years.

She is survived by her son, Dwight (Sue) Parten of Brookwood, AL; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Wayne) Lagrone of Toonsuba, MS; and Rene (Taylor) Whitaker of Crosby, TX; sister, Mamie (Tootsie) James of Pennington, AL; seven grandchildren, Heath Parten, Dylan Parten, Daniel Lagrone, Jeremy Gallups, Jason Gallups, Jennifer Cole, and Bailey Whitaker; and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Parten, her parents, and five siblings

Visitation will be held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm. Funeral services will be held at Nanafalia Baptist Church on Monday, February, 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Nanafalia, AL.
