Obituary for Dorothy Anderson Lowry

Dorothy Anderson Lowry
Dorothy Leon Anderson Lowry of Montgomery died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Marengo Nursing Home in Linden. She was 94.

Graveside services will be held at the Sunny South Baptist Church Cemetery in Sunny South on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Irby Weaver officiating. Prior to that, visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm at the O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville.

Mrs. Lowry, a native of Sunny South in Wilcox County, was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Women’s Army Corps. She was awarded the Victory Medal prior to her discharge on Nov. 26, 1945, at Fort Bragg, N.C.

She was born to Vernon and Zula Horton Anderson in Sunny South on March 19, 1922. She was a graduate of Pine Hill High School, and worked part-time as a rural mail carrier.

Her family remembers her as being a voracious reader and a protector extraordinaire of her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was gifted with a green thumb, and loved tending to her collection of orchids and African violets.

Mrs. Lowry is survived by two sons, Bob Lowry (Angie) of Auburn; and Tom Lowry (Kathie) of Deatsville; two granddaughters, Katie Lowry of New York City and Mara Jacobson (Paul) of Marietta, GA; two great-granddaughters, Reagan Jacobson and Ryann Jacobson, and one great-grandson, Graham Jacobson, all of Marietta, Ga.

Survivors also include three brothers, Billy Anderson of Thomasville, Vernon Anderson of Orrville, and Donald Anderson of Florence; and one sister, Kathleen Pope of Thomasville.

Mrs. Lowry was preceded in death by her husband, Frank O. Lowry, and infant daughter, Brenda Kay Lowry.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made the Sunny South Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
