Obituary for Gerry Eriksen

Gerald Martin "Gerry" Eriksen, age 82 of Thomasville, AL passed peacefully Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at a local hospital.

Gerry was born in Drumheller, Alberta, to mother Bertha Frazer Eriksen Cheecho of Alberta, and father, Martin Herman Eriksen of Denmark, on July 26, 1933. As a child his family lived on Vancouver Island where he completed his schooling. After attending the University of Vancouver, Gerry apprenticed in accounting for John MacMillan of MacMillan Bloedel, Inc. In 1966, Gerry used his accounting background to assist MacMillan Bloedel in establishing the office for the Alabama plant in Yellow Bluff, leading to a 43 year career with the company.

During Gerry's early career years in Vancouver, he became an advocate for the Big Brothers program and was an active board member. Entrepreneurial in spirit, he also enjoyed running several variety and antique shops on the side offering a hub for friendship, support and laughter to many, especially the young people.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Donat Eriksen, daughter, Jennifer Ann (Sean) Failla, two sons, Paul (Heather) Eriksen, and Chris (Jennifer) Eriksen, and ten grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Friday, March, 18, 2016 from 4:00 pm until the 6:00 pm memorial service time with Rev. Warren Huggins officiating.
