Obituary for Dick Irons

Richard Andrew Irons age 80 of Thomasville, AL, died March 7, 2014 at Thomasville Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 7, 1933 in Thomasville, AL. Dick graduated from Thomasville High School. After graduation he joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. After being discharged from the Army he worked as an Alabama State Trooper for several years and then was transferred to the Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms Department as an agent. He left that position to become the Chief of Police in Thomasville upon the retirement of his father in law, Edward C. Maness. He served as chief until his retirement. He was a member of the Thomasville United Methodist Church and an advid Auburn fan. He loved animals, especially horses and dogs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore Maness Irons.

He is survived by two nieces Ronda Maness Vanderheiden and Lisa Maness Summitt, sister in law, Josephine Duke Maness all of Hattiesburg, MS

Visitation will be held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 9:00 am until the 10:00 am service time with Rev. George Sedberry officiating. Burial will be at Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville, AL.
